Pantry Raid #5 Split Pea Soup

The cover-dish ham was almost completely devoured leaving a beautiful ham bone. When we got home from church last night I put it in a large crock pot and added 2 bags of dried split peas, 2 quartered onions, 1 lb of peeled, chopped carrots, salt, 4 bay leaves and lots of water. If I had had  some minced garlic, I would have also added that. Set on high, the soup cooked all night, (what was left of the night by the time we got home). After removing the bone and most of the bay leaves this morning I squished the soup with the back of a serving spoon to make it more smooth. I could have used my immersion blender but everything was so soft I didn’t need to. Also, I don’t like to make any more mess than I have to.
